Kelvin Chumfwa Wins BOTSWANA OPEN 2012 with 9.5/11 edging out FM Gillian Bwalya who finished on equal 9.5/11. The winner’s medal went to Chumfwa who beat Gillian in round 8 though they shared the prize money equally. Kelvin beat Linus Katebe who finished on 8.5/11 and Gillian had to work had to dispatch Spencer Masango 8/11 (ZIM) to share in the first prize.

FM Phemelo Khetho 9/11 got bronze after getting a point off FM Ignatius Njobvu after the latter found his cell phone ringing and got disqualified. IM Robert Gwaze finished on 8.5/11 though he only played 10 rounds and IM Providence Oatlhotse, FM Njobvu finished on 7.5/11 in a fiercely contested tournament full of upsets and pitfalls.

  1. Strong showing by Zambia, as usual. I intend to get my first feel of international competition by playing in Zimbabwe in December, hopefully.
