GM Pontus Carlsson made a strong showing at the 2007 European Team Championships. He scored at team-leading 6-3 and was fortunate enough to win the gold medal on board #5. He also performed at the 2686 and most certainly picked up 25 ELO points. What is more important is that his FIDE rating will jump back over 2500. In this tournament, Carlsson played solid and did not lose a game. He held GM Dmitri Jakovenko of Russia and beat GM Merab Gagunashvili of Georgia. He also beat Greek Grandmaster Ioannis Papaoiannou in impressive fashion. In the following game, he faces Swiss IM Claude Landenbergue and gave an impressive display of energy and power.
