Chima Umeakunne is growing up… both in stature and as a chess player The 17-year old 11th grader certainly has a bright future. The son of the proud Kay Umeakunne was featured in a short article on the Nigerian Chess Players Forum which is maintained my Kunle Elegbede. Many may know Mrs. Umeakunne as the tireless chess organizer who is famous for her chess cakes and cookies.

Chima is an honor student and over the past few years has sprouted into a stately young man of about six feet tall. The Atlanta-born lad is the son of a Nigerian national and has been putting together a steady stream of successful results including 2003 Georgia State 8th grade champion and a 7˝/9 performance at the 2006 World Open. The article reports that Chima has dreams of becoming a USCF National Master and to represent his country of ancestry in international events. His professional goals are to become a physician or and engineer.
