Chima Umeakunne is Georgia's 8th Grade Champion!

When meeting Chima Umeakunne (pictured right), one is immediately drawn by his charming persona and his warm smile. His successes are certainly the product of a supportive household.

On November 1st,
Georgia Institute of Technology hosted the 2003 Georgia Grade Level Championship tournament and drew a total 325 participants (13 sections). Chima, playing at the 8th grade section, won with a 5-0 score. The budding scholastic star has added another trophy to his cache of more than 20. Chima also had a solid showing in the Georgia Peach Cajun summer tournament held this summer.

Kay Umeakunne is very active in in the Georgia chess community and currently serves as the 2nd Vice President of the Georgia Chess Association.  Besides her tireless chess activities, she is known to many readers of The Chess Drum as the one who makes those delicious chess cakes. It's no wonder Chima is always so happy!
