IM Watu Kobese had a strong Olympiad tournament in Mallorca scoring a team-leading eight points with many nice victories. One such victory came against IM Jamshed Isaev of Tajikistan. Kobese, returning to the South African side played energetic chess throughout the tournament and this game was no exception.

A sharp theoretical Sveshnikov Sicilian, both sides followed several well-known games until Isaev deviated with a positional blunder. The tide quickly shifted. The African lion went on the prowl and was soon at the black king. The black queen attempting to protect her mate… even offering herself as a sacrifice, but there was no way to avoid complete devastation.
