Peter Myers get 2nd term as Jamaica’s Prez!

Peter Myers has served as an officer in the Jamaica Chess Federation for more than 25 years and continues his work after being elected for a 2nd term on June 17th. Ten-time women’s champion Deborah Richards-Porter was elected as Vice-President. It will take Myers a long time to match his 20+ years as Vice President. One of the initiatives President Myers has had a hand in securing J$40 million to help bring Jamaica its first home-grown Grandmaster. This initiative was announced earlier his year and Jamaica-born Grandmaster Maurice Ashley has been called to spearhead the movement.

Myers was a long-time competitor on the Jamaican circuit having earned the National Master title in 2008 and participating in many national championships. He holds the rank of National Arbiter and has been a constant fixture in Jamaican chess for nearly four decades. He will have an able board supporting him to execute the federation’s initiatives for the coming four years. We will see what this new year will have in store for Jamaican chess!
