Nigeria has gradually rebuilt its chess community and is currently gearing up for an exciting event. The "VMobile Ultimate Chess Challenge" will feature most of the country's top guns and has received inquiries from abroad. The tournament will take place September 12th-18th in Nigeria's largest city of Lagos and will feature six sections and nine rounds of play at 40 moves per 90 minutes.

Earlier this year, the Nigerian Chess Federation was plagued by an Internet scheme which was quickly uncovered by several conscientious players.
Bunmi Olape of Nigeria, who wrote an excellent report about another Nigerian tournament, informed The Chess Drum that this tournament is definitely legitimate.  "We have new board for the chess federation now and they want to make a good debut with regards to this tournament…,"  stated Olape.
