FM Corbin wins 1st Barbados Qualifier

In this Olympiad year, many federations are being forced to have their championships earlier. In Barbados, the battle has started and the march toward the National Championship has begun. FM Dr. Philip Corbin won the 1st qualifier in an effortless manner with a 8-0 drubbing of the field. FM Corbin was indeed the favorite of group and players such Terry Farley and Kelvin Daniel were poised to mount challenge. However, both were unable to threaten and finished in joint 2nd a full two points back at 6-2. Along with Farley and Daniel, Dwayne Gilkes and Dominic del Castilho also advanced. The 2nd qualifier will take place March 8-24th and defending champion FM Delisle Warner will begin his quest to defend his crown. He defeated Corbin last year in a thrilling finale which drew an international audience.
