Team Profile

If one looks at the extensive and glorious history of Egypt one does not have to search far to find a presence of many board sports enjoyed for many thousands of years. In fact in the Egyptian Museum of Ancient Antiquities (on the upper floor), there is a game encased that looks very similar to chess… it was called Senet.

With such an ancient history of chess, it is no surprise that Egypt is perhaps the strongest chess nation on the African continent boasting more than 20 IMs! The team will not have their strongest player in
IM Fouad El-Taher, but IM Imed Abdelnabbi will man board #1 and brings with him a capable team of titled players.

Egypt's future appears to be bright as it has produced the current African Junior Champion named
Ahmed Adly, who at 14, earned his IM title. Ahmed won't make this Olympiad, but rest assured, he will attempt to make Egypt the true "Valley of the Kings."
