(Report by Peter Myers)

LASCO CHESS LEAGUE

The Blitzkrieg Boys registered back to back wins over the weekend to take sole leadership of the LASCO Chess League at the half way mark. On Saturday, the Boys outlasted the Gladiators 2.5 – 1.5 and returned on Sunday to close out the Reggae Knights 4-0.

The Boys are now on 17.5 points, a half point ahead of Varcon CC who rushed into second place with impressive 4-0 victories over both the King Rippers and the Little Giants.

Pre-tournament favourites Knightmares fell to third place on 16 points, after registering a lacklustre 2.5 – 1.5 win over the Reggae Knights on Saturday.

The rest of the standings going into the second half of the tournament are Gladiators 14, Reggae Knight 8.5, King Rippers 7 and Little Giants 4.

Starting Saturday, the teams will play each other a second time with colours reversed. The feature match in the eighth round at Holy Childhood on Saturday will be the top-of-the-table clash between tournament leaders Blitzkrieg Boys and second place team Varcon CC. Other matches scheduled to take place are Knightmares vs Gladiators and King Rippers vs Little Giants.

Below are the results of Rounds 6 and 7, and the points standings and individual standings after for Round 7.
