"Eichab is Chess Champion," The Namibian, 4 April 2007 (Windhoek, Namibia).

Charles Eichab has played outstanding chess to become the Namibian National Chess Champion for 2007. Eichab won six of his eight games and drew two against Josef Nitzborn and Frans Dennis.

The event took place at the
Thueringer Hof Hotel recently and appearance fees amounting to N$2500 were paid to five top chess players of Namibia.

Another milestone was the achievement of
Fares Fani, who ended second overall, while Frans Dennis was fourth and Josef Nitzborn sixth overall. All the players will receive FIDE identity documents for their outstanding play against FIDE-rated players.

Werner Tjipueja was third overall, while Otto Nakapunda took the fifth spot. Celeste Swartz is the women's champion, while the runner-up was Stephani Swartz, while Anna Hangula was third. The fourth best performing woman was Ngangane Ndjoze.

The players who took part in the men's and women's categories will represent Namibia at the All-Africa Games in Algeria in July. For the juniors, Goodwill Khoa took the first spot, while Apollus Hangula and Edmund Gariseb were third and fourth respectively.
