Ignacio "Nacho" Pérez won  the Washington State Championship back in February. Pérez, who hails from Cuba, scored a 7-2 giving up one only loss enroute to his title. The Seattle resident has been a  force in the Washington chess scene and is known primarily as a blitz specialist. For many years, Pérez (not Péres) has gone unknown as he plays most of his chess locally. Hopefully, we will see more of him in 2007 as Washington's state champ.
