EAGLE Chess Academy Hosts Its
First Chess Tournament

EAGLE Chess Academy hosted its first monthly tournament to over thirty participants and spectators on Sunday, July 29, 2007.  It consisted of four rounds of 30 minute games, opened to adults and children of all ages.  Attendees ranged in age from 5 yrs. old and up.
 
Among the many attendees was Senator
Ulysses Curry who supports EAGLE Chess Academy and chess throughout Maryland to the extent that he was instrumental in getting $255,000 placed into the Maryland State budget for Chess.

EAGLE Chess Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established to promote and teach the game of chess, passing on educational, recreational, and social benefits to scholastic aged children in the MD/DC metropolitan area.  Their primary educational objective for teaching chess to children is to help improve their ability to think effectively. 
 
The tournament was held at
D' Light Skate N Palace, 3132 Branch Ave in Temple Hills, MD.
 
Winners

1st Place:
Theodore Jones with a $300 Award
2nd Place:
David Paulina with a $200 Award
3rd Place:
Zack Kinney with a $100 Award
 
Additionally,
Gabriel Vilarrubi, James Fabunmi, Reggie Pearson, and Herman Barber won entry fees into our next tournament.
 
Special thanks to the co-sponsor,
Tim Taylor, owner and operator of D'Light Skate N Palace, who also believes in the importance of children and education.  That combined with his love for chess made him decide to offer space in his facility for monthly Open and Scholastic tournaments that will broaden young people's exposure to chess.
 
Founded in 2004 by Ted Fagan,
EAGLE Chess Academy currently is the largest organization promoting and providing chess instruction in PG County and one of the largest in the state of Maryland, having impacted thousands of youth and their families.
 
Everyone is invited to participate in the
next tournament to be held on Saturday, September 8th so you too can Enjoy A Great Learning Experience.
