FIDE Master Warren Elliott finished atop a strong field to take the 2006 Frederick Cameron Chess Open held at the Norman Manley Law School last weekend.

Elliott won from a field of 95 players which included six National Masters, with an unbeaten score of 4.5 points from 5 games. National Master
Shane Matthews took second place on tied break over National Master Malaku Lorne after both players ended on 4 points.

The amateur section for players with a Jamaica Chess Federation (JCF) rating under 1800 was won by Glenmuir High's
Lucien Rowe, who finished on a perfect score of 6 points from 6 games. Second place was shared by four players, Chad Simeon, Samuel Lamount, Melisha Smith and Shanice Myrie, all of whom finished on 5 points.

Special category prizes were awarded to the best junior Stuart James, best player rated under 1800 in the Open section Phillip Pryce, best rural player Mikhail Gillespie, best female Melisha Smith, best amateur under-14 Brandon Badal and the best amateur under-12 and under-10 Andrew Folkes.

The tournament was organized and sponsored by Magnificent Chess Ltd. and the Norman Manley Law School. The next scheduled JCF open chess tournament is the 2007 New Years Open, scheduled to take place on January 13 and 14 in the New Year.
