Dear readers:

The Chess Drum has been in existence for four years. In those four years, I have tried to maintain high journalistic standards while attempting to provide a different perspective in the chess media. In the recently-ended Chess Journalist of America awards,
The Chess Drum won three awards in the annual CJA competition including one each for "Best  Internet News Site," and "Best General Website." Looking at the numerous entries nationwide, is evident that there is good work being contributed to the chess community. To be considered as a quality site by a committee of peers is indeed an honor.

I'd like to take time to thank the millions of visitors (in over 170 countries and territories) who have given me the inspiration to work harder even when there are times that I question the amount of hours I've invested without any expectation of return. It has been worth every minute. So many have come to rely on The Chess Drum as a vehicle of news and information and I can assure you there are a number of improvements coming.

Thanks goes to those who send me stories, give me scoops on players, point me to historical data and offer words of encouragement. Thanks to those who have purchased t-shirts in the past. This helps to draw traffic, creates a communal spirit and provides increased awareness of chess. I would like to give a special thanks to my friend
Kimani Stancil who never hesitates to send an e-mail or call me to point out errors and make interesting suggestions. Certainly, this website has a life independent of the creator and it is my hope that more take ownership in its progress. Thanks again and…

KEEP THE BEAT GOING!!
