Before the tournament, most analysts picked the Russian men as favorites, but untimely losses have prevented a successful defense the Olympiad title. On the other hand the Chinese women have continued their Olympiad dominance and are poised to win yet another team gold. India is still in a medal hunt in both the men's and women's competition.
