JamaicaChess.com, "Calabar and Campion through to Digicel/RBTT Chess Finals."

Calabar High and defending champions Campion College are through to the finals of the Digicel/RBTT National Schools Chess Championships. The finals of the competition will take place on Saturday March 6th at the RBTT headquarters in New Kingston, at 10:00 a.m.

In semifinal play on Saturday at RBTT Bank, Calabar had a convincing 3-1 victory over the previously unbeaten Wolmer's Boys. Winning for Calabar were
Richard Lamont, Ricardo Houslin and David Lai on Boards 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Osmond Campbell salvaged a point for Wolmers on Board 4.

In the other semifinal, Campion College played to a 2-2 score line with Clarendon College. Winning for Campion were
Christopher Buchanan and Andrew Ross on Boards 1 and 2 respectively, while John Drummond and Adrian Grant won for Clarendon College on Boards 3 and 4. In the lightning chess, best-of-6 tiebreak match that ensued, Buchanan outclassed Drummond 4-0, to propel Campion into the finals.

Calabar High will be seeking their first hold on the National Title, while Campion College will be hoping to secure their fifth lien. Campion previously won the title in 1989, 1990, 1991 and 2003.

Both teams met in the preliminaries of this season's tournament, where Campion prevailed 3-1. Calabar, who seem to be peeking in time for the finals, will be seeking to exact revenge for the preliminary round loss.
