THE Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) will send two teams to the 36th Chess Olympiad in Calvia, Spain from September 14 to October 31. The head of the delegation will be Dabilani Buthali. The BCF said the selection of players was based on consistency, general performance, general behaviour (discipline), development and experience.
The men's team is made up of Ignatious Njobvu, Phemelo Khetho, Providence Oatlhotse (all University of Botswana), Kenneth Boikhutshwane (Touch Pay), Tebogo Pitlagano (Freced Enterprises) and Olebogeng Hosiah (Botswana Telecommunications Corporation). Ivon Makabe from Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Selebi Phikwe is the reserve. The team manager is BCF vice president Frank Tautsagae.
The women's team consists of Boikhutso Mudongo, Tuduetso Sabure, Boitumelo Reetsang (all UB) and Tshepiso Lopang (Jwaneng). The reserve player is Keitumetse Mokgacha from the Botswana Institute of Administration and Commerce. The team manager and coach is Baone Kealeboga.
According to the BCF secretary general, Moatlhodi Kgosimore, preparations are underway with two practice matches planned with the B-teams for September.
