Bibasa takes Jinja Rapid in Uganda!

Bob Bibasa clinched his first trophy this season after claiming the maiden Jinja Rapid tournament held last weekend. The 3-day event that drew 40 national players was organised by Jinja Chess Club.

Bibasa collected seven points out of a possible eight to beat closest challenger
Moses Kawuma by half a point. On his way to victory, Bibasa went through unbeaten, only drawing against Kawuma and Emma Otula. His victims included Blitz events' master Shadrack Kantinti, Michael Mawanda, Emma Baligeya, Kisitu Kivumbi and Moses Kawuma. Bibasa, a former national champion, received a cash prize of Shs 60, 000 and a trophy. Kantinti finished in third place with 6 points.

In the students' category, Otula beat
Tony Magezi on a tie-break to win top honours. They had tied at 5˝points apiece. Baligeya came third in the category with 5 points. Yusuf Kalyango won the Under 14 category with 3˝ points followed by Abubaker Kitubi on three.
