Uganda to host another thrilling Rapid Championship!

Uganda is will host another New Vision Rapid Championship on the 13th-14th of July. Past events have been filled with excitement as Stephen Kawuma won the last tournament besting Steven Kisuze in a tiebreak thriller. Following are additional details of the tournament:


THE NEW VISION RAPID CHAMPIONSHIP


  1. Venue - Uganda Industrial Research Institute, Kyambogo, Kampala, next to PEPSI
  2. Time: 9:00 am 6:00 pm
  3. Mode of Play: Swiss - 10 rounds
  4. Rate of Play: 30 minutes per player per game
  5. Categories: Open; ladies; girls under 15 and boys under 15
  6. Prize fund: Shs 625,000=
  7. FIDE Rules to apply
  8. All players should bring their own chess sets /clocks
  9. Registration open at Heart of City Restaurant, Entebbe Road next to Centenary Bank (Tel: 041 342118), or register at tournament venue
  10. Entry Fee: Shs 5000=

In other Ugandan chess news, the National Chess League (held only during weekends) will begin in August. Executive Director Daniel Nsibambi reports, "Concurrently, we shall be conducting the last phase of qualifiers for the 2002 Olympiad and a ladies championship, among other events. It is going to be a busy chess season for the rest of the year." It looks like a thrilling summer is in store for Ugandan chess aficionados.
