Bibasa leads Ugandan domination in Kenyan tourney!

UGANDA'S national champion Bob Bibasa added another trophy to his collection when he lifted the regional chess title that ended at the Hotel 680 here last evening. Bibasa also walked off with a cash prize of KSh50,000 (sh1m). Shadrack Kantinti emerged second overall to carry home Ks20,000 on a day that also saw Ugandans make a clean sweep of the ladies and challengers events.  Steven Opio and Joseph Kizza were tied on position three with Kenyan trio of Nathan Ateka, Steven Ouma and Philip Singe in the seniors category.

Catherine Namutebi won the ladies crown beating compatriot Juliet Nakandi to second while another Ugandan, Sharon Twongyeirwe, was third. In the challengers event, Ugandan Kawuma Mutumba was first overall followed closely by Vianney Luggya and Moses Kawuma in another Ugandan clean sweep. Bibasa,25, a Business Administration student at Hull University in the United Kingdom, said his victory was expected as he had prepared for the event. He said he had started poorly due to exhaustion.

Uganda had five players among the top ten while
Joseph Kizza and Ignatius Wanderema finished 7th and 10th respectively.
