Donald Byrne/ Penn State Invitational only a week away!!


In about a week's time, the
Donald Byrne and Penn State Masters Invitational will become host to ten chess masters hoping to start the 2002 campaign on the right foot.  This category IV tournament will feature Nigerian IM Oladapo Adu and three participants in the Wilbert Paige tournamentFM Stephen Muhammad, FM Ronald Simpson, and NM Norman Rogers. Both FM Muhammad and NM Rogers will be after their second IM norms. The tournament will also feature Canadian junior champion, FM Pascal Charbonneau who is seeking his third and final IM norm, after his IM performance in Bermuda. Other participants include: IM Luis Chiong (PHI), wily veteran IM Edward Formanek, NM Igor Schneider, and last but not least, FM Stanislav Kriventsov, the tournament's Chief Organizer. IA Jerry Bibuld will serve as Chief Arbiter for this event. The Chess Drum will provide updates on the event's progress, but for further details, visit the following websites:

From University Park Airport: Turn left onto Fox Hill Rd (becomes Fox Hollow Rd), go 4.1 miles, turn right onto W. Park Ave, go 1.0 miles, turn left onto Shortlidge Rd, go 0.4 miles, turn right onto Pollock Rd, go 0.2 miles.

From I-80: take PA-26 exit, go south on PA-26 (becomes College Avenue) 14.5 miles, turn right onto Shortlidge Rd, go 0.3 miles, turn left onto Pollock Rd, go 0.2 miles.

From US-322: take PA-26 exit, take PA-26 south towards State College, go 1.7 miles, turn right onto Shortlidge Rd, go 0.3 miles, turn left onto Pollock Rd, go 0.2 miles.
