Carlsson blitzes field in two tourneys!

Grandmaster Pontus Carlsson took his blitz skills to Czech Republic and Slovakia and won both events by prodigious scores. Not originally known as a “blitz specialist,” the Swedish national has competed at the highest levels at the World Rapid and Blitz. In 2018, he scored 8/15 (rapid) and 10.5/21 (blitz) He also competed in the 2019 Rapid and Blitz faring less successfully scoring 5.5/15 (rapid) and 9/21 (blitz). Seeded second, he won the 2021 Prague Blitz as well.

While Carlsson is busy promoting his Business Meets Chess & Kids, he plays in an occasional tournament. In the Czech Republic, he ran through the field with 12.5/13 drawing with the top-seed IM Jakub Pulpan. In Slovakia, he scorched the field with 10.5/11. “I won a lot of games,” he told The Chess Drum. He also mentioned that GM Timur Gareyev played a blindfold simultaneous exhibition.
