A very important interview has been conducted by Nigeria’s Akinseye Akinleye of Lewis Ncube, the President of the African Chess Confederation (ACC). It covers a wide range of topics from the new structure of the African Championships (including automatic GM titles), the African Grand Prix and expansion to increase Africa’s federation membership from 43 to 54!
Of course Ncube’s election comes in the aftermath of a contentious and often nasty FIDE Presidential campaign. Ncube discussed this in an interview with The Chess Drum after the elections and in this interview he added some additional comments with updates on progress. He stated that he offered an olive branch to those on other sides of the political spectrum. This interview is a must-read if you are interested in African chess.
