Looking forward to chess beat in 2015!

The Chess Drum, https://www.thechessdrum.net/

Dear chess family & friends,

January 2014 in Halong Bay, Vietnam.

The year 2014 was a good one for chess. With a number of marquee tournaments, an Olympiad, a world championship match, break-out performances, a few rising stars and new federations, chess had quite a bit of variety. The world of chess seems to be shaping up into a more universal activity with chess thriving in the land of traditional chess powers, emerging federations and also chess communities of a handful of players.

Showing the universality of chess is to show its global appeal and to demonstrate the variety of people who love the game. Each person has their own reason for appreciating the royal game and there are many human interest stories waiting to be told. One of the missions of The Chess Drum is to uncover and to give light to inspirational stories that are often overlooked. To show how chess makes an impact in so many different ways gives marketers a better understanding of why they should sponsor the game loved by millions and not merely a small, high-browed, elite segment.

In the coming year, it is hopeful that The Chess Drum will continue to capture exciting events and impactful stories. With 240 stories posted in 2014, I cannot promise to repeat such volume, but perhaps 2015 will bring just as much intrigue and excitement. Enjoy the coming year and… make chess news!

Sincerely,

Dr. Daaim Shabazz, The Chess Drum
