Follow the Drum Beat!
After covering the 2013 U.S. Chess Championship, The Chess Drum enter the summer months looking forward to an exciting trip to Ghana, West Africa. Hopefully, there will be coverage of the chess community and a local tournament that will take place. Unfortunately this trip is running concurrent with the World Open (in its new home of Arlington, Virginia) and there will be no onsite coverage, but there will be a final report made. There were many breaking stories including “2013 African Championships” won by GM Bassem Amin (open) and WIM Shrook Wafa (women) along with Orrin Hudson’s ongoing charity fundraiser and Tanzania’s upcoming tournament hosting GM Nigel Short.
