Fite has been a tireless organizer for the DCCC for a decade and has hosted a number of guest (myself included) to Detroit to interact with his students. On Friday nights, dozens of his students assemble at the Detroit Institute of Arts to engage in chess battle. The idea is for the students to gain discipline, enhance social skills and to sharpen problem-solving skills.

In a recent article by Laura Berman, there were several testimonies to the work Fite does. There was even a reference to Debbie Dingell who shared Fite’s successful program with Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michell Obama. President Barack Obama has been on record as supporting these types of activities.
