Wilkinson at 84th FIDE Congress

Ian G. Wilkinson, QC, the president of the Jamaica Chess Federation visited the Estonian Parliament on Thursday, October 10, 2013 as a guest of Member of Parliament Andrei Korobeinik who is also the president of the Estonia Chess Union. The men discussed various matters of mutual interest for over two hours and agreed to collaborate in the future. MP Korobeinik is to check the records but believes that Wilkinson might very well be the first Jamaican to visit the Estonian Parliament.

Wilkinson, also the president of the lawyers’ group the Jamaican Bar Association, visited Tallinn, Estonia as Jamaica’s delegate to the 84th Congress of the World Chess Federation (“FIDE”) and to participate as a member of FIDE’s Ethics Commission.

In order to establish international links and strengthen Jamaican Chess, he also held talks with representatives of a number of countries including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
