The “Dutch Antilles” is a region not known for its strength in chess, but has come one of the most active regions in the Caribbean. The Curaçao Chess Festival draws strong GMs from around the world and the island of 135,000 have no doubt been inspired.
Most will remember the 1962 Candidates Tournament being played on the island. While players of the caliber of Bobby Fischer have not come to Curaçao, the 2012 version hopes to get a first-rate field. The tournament will be held July 5th-15th. (See tournament details)
