Bahamas Chess Officials meet Minister
Executive Members of The Bahamas Chess Federation (BCF) met with The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Desmond Bannister and the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Archie Nairn on Monday 11th May, 2009. While at the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of Chess in The Bahamas, plans to strengthen the BCF and opportunities of players through training. In addition, they discussed the possibilities of including Chess as an activity in the Ministry’s upcoming 2009 Summer Program.

Thank you for the coverage. It is good to see my Bahamian brothers moving the sport forward. Kean and I keep in touch. Warren Seymour is a legend in Bahamian chess and it is good to see him still working with the youngsters. I have not spoken to Milton Evans for many years – he was several years ahead of me at law school. It is interesting that both the president and vice-president in the Bahamas are lawyers!
Sooner than later we are going to have a massive Caribbean event and the Bahamas will be very involved. More anon.

I remember Warren Seymour coaching a youth team back in 1983 with his daughter Antoinette Seymour on board #1. Dr. Juliette Storr was on that team as was Anthony Moss and Percy Rolle. I showed Moss some lines in the Najdorf and tried to get a blitz game with Rolle, but he refused. He had just destroyed a few weaker players in blitz. I don’t believe any of them play any more.
