Caribbean Chess Carnival on tap!
Edison Raphael has been organizing tournaments in Trinidad for more than 20 years. Perhaps his crown achievement had been the GM tournament in 1990. It was the first GM norm tournament in the English-speaking Caribbean. He then organized the memorable Caribbean. During the recent Barbados Heroes Day Cup, both Andy Walker (Guyana) and FM Grantel Gibbs (Jamaica) reminisced about the event.
Edison’s latest development has been the Caribbean Chess Carnival which attracts players from throughout the Caribbean, Latin America and the U.S. The tournament has been a smashing success and hopes to be bigger and better this year. The tournament will kick off August 4th-9th in the capitol of Port of Spain.

This is the first international event that I have read about in thechessdrum that is announced early enough.. (at least 3 months in advance of the event) that I can possibly consider going to. I will try to get more info on hotel and other costs, and will seriously consider visiting Trinidad & Tobago as my first trip to the Caribbean. This is at the same time as the US Open, so what..
I would like to ask other organizers to let us know about your events earlier than you have in the past. This includes events in the colder months as well.

saludos mi nombre es Germán Alejandro Herrera Ortega soy expretto nacional de ajedrez en Venezuela, asísti a este torneo el 2.008 con la finalidad de probarme a mi mismo que podia jugar un mejor ajedrez! me excluyerón injustificadamente en el equipo de ajedrez del Estado Carabobo (Valencia, Venezuela) en el 2.007 por supuesto bajo rendimiento, conocí en Curacao a un jugador trinitario llamado Chog Curtis una agradable persona a quién no dude en preguntarle si hacian torneos internacionales en Trinidad! a lo cual me dijo que si El prestigioso Caribeam Chess Carnival trabajé mucho para lograr el dinero sin tener un ingles muy claro me comunique con los organizadores tres meses antes del torneo, tomé un taxi de Valencia para Caracas ( 200km) y rumbo al aereopuesto aun país que no conocia con costumbres, color de piel e idioma diferente! me recibierón en el Aereopuerto de Piarco y me encontre con la sorpresa de que manejan por la derecha!!! su forma de comer sus contumbres todo ello me facinó de este desconocido país y no sabia que lo tenía al lado! pude enfrentar a los mejores jugadores de trinidad de Barbados al Maestro Pecoreli en la 8va ronda con quien hize una grata amistad (!ya que Cuba y Venezuela son muy cercanos por la costumbres e idioma!) logre llegar de 6to puesto de 24 jugadores empatado con el 4to lugar, siendo premiedo por los organizadores! (a pesar que no entendia mucho ingles!) me llevé a mi país el agradable sabor de que hay gente que saben valorar tu talento y la federación de ajedrez de Trinidad le agradesco por esa gran oportunidad! Dios bendiga al Señor Edison Raphael a Su señora esposa por tenerme paciencia cuando le llamaba por telefono hahahahahha!! y a todos los organizadores y jugadores de tan prestigioso torneo! Germán Herrera!
