Fire on Board! (Ernst vs. Tate)

Fire on Board!Fire on Board!Fire on Board!

In a throwback game, then-FM Emory Tate took on the rising star in IM Sipke Ernst. The game appeared to be headed toward a slow game from the Czech Benoni, but the Dutch player broke from the mold with 7.g4!? and a brawl ensued.

The game had some interesting maneuvers and when Tate showed deep positional understanding with a beautiful exchange sacrifice. Many think Tate is merely great tactician and do not give credit for his positional understanding, but this game shows some of his insight into positional chess.

See Game!
