The Chess Drum presents another gamecast lecture with Nigeria’s IM Oladapo Adu giving commentary on his game with FM Raymond Kaufman. Some of you know that Ray is the son of IM Larry Kaufman, America’s top shogi player. The younger Kaufman is a shogi expert and has recently earned his three IM norms after a stint in Europe. Here the two Maryland residents battle again.

  1. hi, i would like to know if he(adu) will be attending nigeria breweris chess tourament(nbl) coming up soon, cause am a big fan of him, i’m hoping to meet him. thanks

  2. Not sure about the move order. 1.e4 c6 2. d3!? e5 3.Nf3 d6 4.d4. Seem like black gets an extra move to equalize. I believe Kaufman’s …Qb6 adventures led to him failing behind and getting his pieces tangled.

    Adu had another move transposition he favored in the Ramaswamy game after an early …Qb6. In one of the lines that Glenn Bady asked about (Be3), black seems to lose a crucial tempo. 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Qb6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Be3 Qc7. That’s a tempo less than 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 a6 5.Nc3 Qc7 6.Be3 Nf6.

    Can black get away with 4…Qb6? In this game he did and won convincingly. I’ve seen 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Qb6!?
