Uganda launches new website!

Great news from the newly-launched Ugandan website…

The East African Championship occurred this weekend in Uganda and teams from Kenya and Somalia joined in the action. Final reports are forthcoming. The Ugandan Chess federation received a two million shilling sponsorship from Fountain Publishers for this tournament and other initiatives.

Ms. Sarah Kahangi of Fountain Publishers Limited handed over the cheque to UCF’s Vice Chairman, Mr. Jusper Pkwiyulli at a press conference held on Tuesday 18th March, 2008 at 10:30 am. Ms. Kahangi pledged her organisation’s commitment to supporting games like chess because of its role in brain development, which is in line with the products that Fountain Publishers deals in.

UCF Publicity Secretary, Vianney Luggya expressed the federation’s gratitude towards Fountain Publishers and appealed to other sponsors to emulate them for the development of the game in the country.

Meanwhile, at the same press conference the Uganda Chess Federation launched its official website www.ucf.co.ug which first went online on Friday 24th March, 2008. Luggya said the website designed by an ex Olympian Stephen Kisuze will enable the federation to reach out to its varying publics across the globe with timely and updated information on all the events in the country.

All the basic information about Ugandan chess is available on the website and it will soon have an option for interaction where players and public can post comments on any topical issue.
