Round #7 Report  - Daniel Nsibambi (Uganda)

Hi All,

It was another bright day for Uganda when they put down Macau 3 - 1 this evening.  It could have been 4 against nothing if Grace Nsubuga had not over-extended his attack leaving his rear vulnerable.

Playing black pieces on table 1 Nsubuga (2224) had virtually cornered his man Silveirinha J Antonio (2150) who amazingly turned tables against Grace forcing him to resign one move away from a checkmate.

For Shadrack Kantinti ( 2200) his win against Fesalbon Rolando (2200) was textbook stuff,  attacking from beginning to end, giving his man no breathing space.

Steven Kawuma on the next table had to go into end-game against elderly Feio Amilcar (2191) who had refused to surrender although the odds had been long stacked against him right from the middle game.

Isaac Munanira (unrated) got his third Olympiad point playing white against Mak Keng Kei (2033). His win came after stubborn resistance from his opponent but in the end Isaac who is having a good Olympiad  prevailed.

Final score: 3 - 1 for Uganda.

Other selected results include: Zambia 1 -  Iraq 3, with Simutowe drawing; Monaco 1.5 - Botswana 2.5; Egypt 0 - Germany 4; South Africa 3 - Mauritius1; Kenya 0 - IBCA (Blind team)  4; Norway 3 - Ireland 1; Zimbabwe 3.5 - Suriname 0.5; Russia 3 - Poland 1; USA 2 - Lithuania 2; Netherlands 3 - England 1 (with GM Nigel Short -2684 of England losing  to Netherlands GM Ivan Sokolov -2684); Angola 3 - Liechtenstein 1; Namibia 2.5 - British Virgin Islands 1.5.

Uganda's tally of points has  climbed to 11.5 from 7 rounds. The leaders Russia have 21.5 points.

Cheers

Daniel
