Bxf6 Qxf6 5. e4 d6 6. e5 While "booking up" the previous night, I was unable to find this seemingly strong move in Batsfor Chess Openings. 6... dxe5 7. dxe5 Qe7 Black threatens ...Qb4+. Later Larry told me that Black gets a good game with the normal continuation, 7...Qf4. 8. Nbd2 Nc6 9. Bd3 g5 This advance surprised me. I expected the immediate 9... Bd7 followed by 10... O-O-O 10. h3 Bg7 11. Qe2 Bd7 12. O-O-O O-O-O 13. Rhe1










With both side set up for battle, I felt that I stood slightly better. 13... h5 14. g4 hxg4 15. hxg4 Nb4 Black will have two Bishops against two Knights, but White gains a pawn in the deal. 16. Qe3 Nxd3+ 17. cxd3 Kb8 18. Nxg5 Bb5 19. d4 Bh6 20. Nde4 Bc6 21. f4 Bd5 22. Kb1 Bxg5 23. Nxg5 Rh4 24. Rg1 Rdh8 25. f5 Rh2 26. Rd2 a5!?










It might have been better to preface this move by 26... exf5 27. f6 Qb4 28. Rxh2 Rxh2 29. Qc3 Bxa2+ 30. Ka1 Qa4 31. Qa3 Qxa3 Black is also lost after 31... Qxd4 32. Nf3 Qf2 33. Kxa2 Rh3 34. Qf8+ Ka7 35. Qxf7 Rxf3 36. Rc1 32. bxa3 b5 33. Nxf7 Bd5 34. Nh6!










34... Ra2+ Black will run out of checks after 34... Rxh6 35. g5 Rh3 36. g6 Rxa3+ 37. Kb2 finding himself unable to stop White's passed pawns. 35. Kb1 Rf2 36. g5 Be4+ 37. Ka1 Bg6 38. Ng8 b4 39. axb4 axb4 40. Ne7 Be4 41. Rb1! Ka7 Clearly, Black cannot take the Rook. 42. Rxb4 Ka6 43. g6 Ka5 44. Rb2 Rf1+ 45. Ka2 Ka4 46. g7 Rf3 Black threatens mate in one, but... 47. Re2
