2007 World Chess Championship
(Mexico City, Mexico)

The 2007 World Chess Championship has begun! Eight of the world's top players will square off for the right to advance deeper into the FIDE World Championship cycle. The reigning World Champion Vladimir Kramnik will be one of eight competitors in this tournament and will be challenged by the world's #1-rated player, Viswanathan Anand.

This will be one of the strongest tournament in history with eight of the top fourteen players in the world competing. The winner of this tournament will play Kramnik (if he is not the winner) while
Veselin Topalov will play the winner of the World Cup. This new formula was set by FIDE and is said to be the beginning of complete unification.
