Peter Myers, "2007 LASCO National Chess Championship begins this Weekend," 20 July 2007, Jamaica Chess Federation.

The Jamaica Chess Federation will launch the 2007 LASCO National Chess Championship on July 21st at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow at RBTT Bank Headquarters in New Kingston. This year's Championship is the 39th staging, which is being sponsored for the third straight year by LASCO. Round one of the Championship will take place right after the launch.

Please Note that the field is headed by four-time National Champion and Jamaica's number one internationally ranked player, FIDE Master
Warren Elliott. His main challenges are expected to come from past champions, National Masters Shane Matthews and Russel Porter.

The field is completed by newcomers, Mikhail Solomon, Stuart James, and Zachary Ramsay, Candidate Masters Daren Wisdom, Peter Myers and Mark Henry and National Masters Andrew Mellace, Equitable Brown and Mark Holness.

Round one on Saturday will see Solomon vs. Holness, Mellace vs. Porter, Wisdom vs. Henry, Matthews vs. Ramsay, James vs. Elliott and Brown vs. Myers. The tournament is scheduled to take place over 11 rounds, with play taking place on Saturdays and Sundays until mid-September.

Please note that only the first four rounds will be played at RBTT, the rest will be played at the Norman Manley Law School.
