After one round of play, the Masters KO tourney in Jamaica saw three upsets including Onaje Lamont's victory over National Master and former national champion John Powell. Both Humphrey Gayle and Adrian Palmer lost to Gary Hew and Zachary Ramsey, respectively.
Moving into the second round of play, 16 players will pair off including six National Masters and four Candidate Masters. The competition is also dotted with promising young players and may be a prequel to the future of Jamaican chess.
Venue: Cafeteria, AZ Preston Hall, University of the West Indies for the first round (round-of-32) games on January 21 and 28, 2007. RBTT Bank, Dominica Drive for the round of sixteen onwards (unless otherwise advised).
Starting time: 1:00 pm.
Remaining Schedule: The round of sixteen matches will be held on February 3, 4, 10 and 11, 2007; the quarter-final matches will be held on February 17, 18, 24 and 25; the semi-final matches will be held on March 3, 4, 10 and 11 and the grand finals will be held on March 17, 18, 24 and 25, 2007.
