Zambian International Master, Amon Simutowe is confirmed to play in the 2006 Jamaica Open Chess Championship from Saturday, October 14 through Monday, October 16. In his last visit to Jamaica in 2004, IM Simutowe won the Harold Chan Open with a perfect 6/6 score.

The Jamaica Open is expected to be the strongest tournament held in Jamaica this year with a number of players from Trinidad, Barbados, and the Bahamas slated to participate.

The Jamaica Open is a 6-round FIDE rated event with two games each day, and at the time control of game in ninety minutes (G/90+30s) plus an increment of 30 seconds per move.

Along with the champions trophy, the winner will collect $500 (US) with $250 (US) to second place. Entry fee is $1,000 (J$), however, pre-register players will pay a discounted fee of $600.

The Open will be played at the Guardian Life Insurance Company in New Kingston, and is being sponsored by ISPO Construction Limited and Guardian Life. The defending champion is NM Shane Matthews.
