The Knightmares chess team walked away champions of the inaugural staging of the LASCO Chess League, when play ended on Sunday at the Holy Childhood Library. Knightmares topped the standings with 33 points after registering an unconvincing 2½-1½ victory over the Reggae Knights in their final match.

The Blitzkrieg Boys who led for most of the tournament, had to settle for second with 32 points, after losing 1-3 to Gladiators on Saturday and defeating the Reggae Knights 4-0 on Sunday. Varcon CC on 31 and Gladiators on 30½ took third and fourth respectively. Completing the field were the King Rippers on 19, Reggae Knights on 13½ and Little Giants on 7½.

The Knightmares team consisted of FIDE Master Warren Elliott, National Master Jomo Pitterson (captain), Equitable Brown, Dain Dixon, Mikhail Solomon and Maurice Robinson.
Elliott took home the prize for being the top player on Board 1, National Master Shane Matthews of the Gladiators won the Board 2 prize, Peter Myers of Varcon CC took home the award for best Board 3 and Blitzkrieg Boys' Allan Wilson was tops on Board 4. The best first-reserve award went to Andrew Mellace of the Gladiators, while the best second-reserve award went to Maurice Robinson of the Knightmares.

Special awards also went to Varcon CC for being the top team with an average rating under 2000 and Little Giants for being the top team with an average rating under 1800.
