Nsobya M. Ssebaggala, "Kawuma Wins Open," The Monitor, 31 March 2005 (Kampala, Uganda).

Defending champion Stephen Kawuma could have lost out on illusive Easter Chess Championship title but still shares the same roof with the coveted silverware's new winner Moses Kawuma, his elder brother.

The Olympian grossed 7.5 points from relatively weaker opposition pairings in
Frank Sanyu, George Mwanga, Davis Agaba, Joseph Kaamu (national coach), Paul Maloba, Ben Magana before sharing the spoils with Stephen Kawuma in the Swiss-format event to clinch his first major accolade at the sport here Monday evening.

Stephen settled for third spot, one point off the leader board and behind seasoned player
Grace Nsubuga at seven points.

Moses attributed his success to intensive training from Stephen. "I feel so good because I have been training a lot with my brother and also the parental support," he added.

Stephen and Moses  Kawuma compete in the 2004 Olympiad in Mallorca, Spain.
