New York scholastic players hot in Arizona!

Readers of these pages perhaps know of Medina Parilla, the teenage sensation from the Bronx. She and her MS 118 team recently competed in the National Junior High School Championship last weekend and missed another championship by ½-point.

Parilla (1825) led her team with an undefeated 6-1 which included a draw with the #2 seed (2199). This performance gave her joint 2nd and she remains unbeaten in Nationals after last year's stellar performance.  Parilla also scored 10 points in the blitz tournament, placing joint 3rd.

MS 118 actually finished second behind IS 318, who  also won the under-1000 championship.  Both schools are part of the Chess-in-Schools program
