Chess is enjoyed by millions throughout the globe and there are many different segments of this burgeoning community. Perhaps the most forgotten segment would have to be the prison population. Due to access restriction and ignorant prison officials, many inmates do not have the opportunity to enjoy chess or even read chess materials. Despite the studies done on the reduction of recidivism rates (prison returnees), there are still many obstacles. This essay takes a look at prison chess… its benefits and triumphs… its challenges and obstacles.
