Barbados has been brimming with activity in what amounts to a very successful year for the growing chess island. After a thrilling national championship which ended with two of the nation's top players, Delisle Warner and Dr. Philip Corbin. Both also placed 1-2 in the Caribbean Open in Martinique and Warner recently participated in the powerful Santo Domingo Chess Open.

The Barbados Chess Federation (BCF) has also gained momentum with the rise of junior standout
Askari Elson, who is currently studying in the United States.  Elson recently scored 50% in the World under-20 championships and was this year's winner of the  Barbados Junior OpenRashida Corbin (no relation to Philip) has continued dominance in the Ladies' sector.
