Maurice Ashley for National Youth Chess!

AmericInn Lodging System has, for the 3rd straight year, teamed with GM Maurice Ashley to host the National Youth Chess Championship. Local tournaments will run throughout the month of November and the final championship will be held in February 2004 in St.Paul, Minnesota with a $13,500 scholarship fund.

GM Ashley is one of the few Grandmasters (e.g.,
Garry Kasparov, Yasser Seirawan) able to offer the credibility and charisma to enhance the market scope of chess. The American hotelier is happy to join with GM Ashley to bring about greater visibility for the benefits of scholastic chess. Ashley told The Chess Drum,

"I do not know of another major corporate sponsor for children's chess in the US (particularly as the title sponsor of an event) so I think that is another cool aspect to this  …  It's a win-win event for chess, youth, and a corporate sponsor."
