29 January 2010
Dear Chess Supporter,

I am writing to ask for your assistance. This letter is for the purpose of soliciting funds for Sabine Bonnet and her family to help them cope with their tremendous losses caused by the earthquake in Haiti. You no doubt have read and seen the devastation. An estimated 200,000 people have perished in the aftermath of the seismic event on January 12th 2010. Bonnet was the President of L'Académie d'Échecs, an organization founded January 2008 to promote chess in Haiti. Bonnet and her family were of those fortunate enough to survive.

L'Académie d'Echecs HAICA is an organization founded on 14 January 2008 to promote chess in Haiti. It is connected with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Haitian Chess Federation. Sabine Bonnet, President, is on the far left.

L'Académie d'Échecs is connected with the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Haitian Chess Federation. Sabine Bonnet, President, is on the far left. Her husband Jean Rene Bonnet is on the right.

In the harrowing minutes after the earthquake had struck, the Bonnet family lost everything they owned. Fortunately, Sabine, her husband Jean Rene Bonnet and two children (Jeannissah, seven years and Sarjeah, five years) fled the destruction and are safe in Miami. However, the family is in critical need of assistance. I have made contact with Mrs. Bonnet and have verified her contact information. Let us help a member of the chess family who is in dire need.

You can donate to the Bonnet family by one of the methods given below. Paypal is preferred. Other wire transfers will come to "Daaim Shabazz" in Tallahassee, FL, 32301. Once the donations are collected and counted, I will travel to Miami, Florida and deliver the total amount to the family personally. Thank you for your help and concern. Feel free to leave well-wishes and comments here.

Sincerely,

Dr. Daaim Shabazz, The Chess Drum
