pele,

You must know that Africa is a very large continent and flights are not easy. You can fit the U.S., Western Europe, India, Argentina and most of China inside of the continent!! In fact it is easier to travel outside of African than within. However, the Egyptians seem to always be well-represented when the tournament is in the south. Adly, Amin and Wageih have all won Junior Championships in these places.

I believe these are not real africa junior champs. if you have noticed, when the tournament is held in northen hemisphere very few southern countries travel and again vice verca. same with the africa championships. if they are held southern hemisphere then it is dominated by southern guys eg, gwaze, simutowe, chumfwa, kobese etc... and when its up obviously the ahdlys, basem, u name them... why cant africa hev a tournament that can pit all the champions? i shud think we hev to introduce an african championship probably once every two years and copy the soccer guys. it will promote chess

Botswana players, Mbakhwa Faith came 6th in the Girls Section with 5 points and Leso Gorata came 9th with 4.5 points
In the open section Olebile Thato came 12th with 4.5 points and Gumpo Thabo came 13th with 4.5 points also. The funny thing is that they both got 3 points from the Libyan players and three draws.

I remember Mona winning it in South Africa with Bassem Amin. :-) Karim winning three times is unprecedented. I'm not sure why I didn't recall him winning previously. Will he get a norm for each? I'm not sure FIDE will give him a conditional GM title for winning.

This is the third time for Karim to win it as he is the winner of the 2007, 2008 and this year.
As for Mona, this is her second time as she won in 2005 when she was only 11 years old.

Didn't both with these tournaments last year? It is rare to see players compete in junior tournament after winning the previous year, but I suppose this will give them the right to compete in World Junior. For Wageih, he gets another GM norm. Shahkriyar Mamedyarov won the World Junior twice and is the only player to have done that. He got an automatic spot in the World Championship cycle.

I met Ghatour Mosab in Dresden for the Olympiad. Very nice fellow.
